Jon was born on March 21, 1942, in Riverside California. He attended public schools in Riverside and the University of California at Riverside, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science.
He married Sylvia Marie Galloway on his 22nd birthday in 1964. They have three children and five grandchildren, and celebrated their 50th Anniversary in March 2014.
Jon was introduced to the Masonic family at 14, when he joined Riverside Chapter, Order of DeMolay. He subsequently served as Master Councilor, and has been recognized with the Degree of Chevalier and the DeMolay Legion of Honor.
Our 160th Grand High Priest was raised a Master Mason in Riverside Lodge No. 635 in 1964, and served as Master of Elk Grove Lodge No. 173 in 1998. He has served his Lodges as Candidate’s Coach, Officers’ Coach, and District Inspector, and has received the Hiram Award from Elk Grove Lodge.
Jon joined Sacramento Chapter No. 3, Royal Arch Masons, along with Sacramento Council and Sacramento Commandery, in 1997. He has served as Inspector and Assistant Director of Ritual for the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons and has been recognized with the Master of Ish Sodi Award. He has also been honored by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons with the Distinguished Service Award.
He is a member of both San Francisco and Golden Redwood Priories Knights of the York Cross of Honor, and of Saint Francis Conclave, Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine. Other Masonic affiliations include Southern California Research Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, High Twelve International, Allied Masonic Degrees, Ben Ali Shrine Temple, Northern California Past Masters Association, and the Masonic Rosicrucian Society in the United States.
Jon and Sylvia enjoyed recreational vehicle travel for many years, traveling throughout the western United States. However, as they approached retirement, they discovered it was easier to let Holiday Inn make the bed and Applebees’ cook the meals. They sold their fourth and last fifth-wheel trailer in 2010.
Jon worked for the California Department of Transportation in various cities in the state, as a program analyst and personnel and labor relations manager, retiring in 2004 after 40 years’ service. He is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church, and he and Sylvia are presently members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lodi, California.
