| Words of Wisdom There has been in my mind for sometime the question about “Tolerance” and “Acceptance”, so I tried to find a definition of those words in a few dictionaries; however, the answers have not been quit satisfactory, or at least elusive, for they do not convey the true feeling of the reasoning, and true intent of those who “tolerate” and of those who “accept”. There must be a hidden sentiment to those actions, for example, the definition of “tolerance” Is as follows: Tolerance, the power of enduring and resisting, another definition is, to permit others to do or say as they wish. When someone “tolerates” or permits, there is the implication of superiority of one over another, who may not necessarily be intellectually inferior in any way, but in fact, is in a position of disadvantage, and the true sentiment of the those who tolerate is to hide their own shortcomings and fears, and to make themselves feel superior. Acceptance does not hold any barriers, it is the act of taking what is offered or given to one, and to receive it willingly. The people involved do not necessarily be of the same thought sex, national origin, or race, but they accept each other as they are; they can be totally different but they accept and respect those differences. That is why we say that “Justice is blind” Justice accepts all as they are even if it is miss-applied by those blinded by their own shortcomings. With that in mind we can try to make an educated definition in our minds of “toleration” and “acceptance”, and perhaps, even to put into practice the concept of acceptance, and set aside the wrongful idea of putting someone down to make us feel superior by “toleration” Any similarities of some of the readers are purely coincidental, and not in any way tolerate, but rather accept them as they are. Now there is some homework for those who think that this is a riddle of insurmountable proportions. Most fraternally, Jose Assa Fiss KYGCH-MIGM
