Grand Commandery Knights Templar of California
Sir Knight Fenton Romyne Mereness, Jr. spent his formative years in Cobleskill, New York, a small community about 15 miles from the farm his family settled in the late 1700ís.
Sir Knight Mereness graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton N. Y. in 1959 with a B. S. in Psychology and was Commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the U. S. Army, Infantry. Upon being called to Active Duty he subsequently received a Regular Army commission in the Medical Service Corp. For his service in Viet Nam he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. Returning to civilian life he joined Crown Zellerbach Corp. as a Manager and retired after 27 years.
Sir Knight Mereness was Initiated, Passed, and Raised in Cobleskill Lodge No. 394 in 1963 and retains his membership there. He also maintains membership in Norton Moses Lodge No. 336 in Leander, TX; Provident-Three Pillars No. 609, Elk Grove, CA; East Belt-Tuolumne No. 8, Sonora, CA; and El Camino Research Lodge, and served as Master in each of the 3 California Lodges. He has served the California Grand Lodge as member of the Masonic Homes Endowment Committee, District Inspector and as Grand Pursuivant in 2006. He received the California Grand Lodge Golden Veterans recognition in 2013.
Active in the Order of DeMolay as member, officer, Chapter Dad, and Advisor he was elected to receive the DeMolay Legion of Honor in 1966. He is currently Past President and Director of the DeMolay Foundation of California.
Sir Knight Merenessí York Rite activities include membership in Modesto, San Jose and Sonora York Rite Bodies. He served the Grand Chapter as Master of the 2nd Veil; The Grand Council as Director of Ritual and in 2006 was honored with the General Grand Councilís California Cryptic Mason of the year award. Prior to being appointed Grand Warder he was serving the Grand Commandery as an Inspector.
